The University of Cape Coast
(UCC) Council, in accordance with the University’s 2012
status and recommendation of its Academic Board, has
approved proposals for the establishment of five colleges for
the university, effective August 1, 2014
.
They are College of Human and Legal Studies, College of
Education Studies, Colleges of Natural and Agricultural
Sciences, College of Health and Allied Science and Colleges of
Distance Education.
A statement issued by Maj. Kofi Baah-Bentum, Senior
Assistant Registrar and copied to the Ghana News Agency on
Thursday stated that the idea of organizing the university into
a collegiate system was to pool resources, strengthen
potentials and provide an opportunity to deliver better services
to students.
It said it was also to create interdisciplinary and trans-
disciplinary teaching, learning and research environment as
well as the devolution of some areas of administration to the
colleges to allow efficiency in the delivery of services such as
the library, information technology, staff and student
recruitment and welfare.
“In line with the changes, council has also approved
recommendations for the appointment of an Acting Provost to
oversee and ensure the effective running and management of
the newly established colleges”, it stated.
